20. ĐÂU RỒI ẢI NAM QUAN ?
Uy nghiêm và hùng vĩ,
hình ảnh Ải Nam Quan đã in sâu vào trái tim mỗi người dân nước Việt.
Dù phiêu bạt đến bất cứ nơi nào trên trái đất,
mỗi khi nhớ về mảnh đất quê hương cong cong hình chữ S
không người Việt Nam nào lại không nhớ tới câu thơ đã lưu truyền bao thế hệ :
Nước ta liền một dải
Từ Mục Nam Quan * đến mũi Cà Mau ...
Trên mảnh đất địa đầu Tổ quốc,
mỗi tấc đất đều thấm máu bao anh hùng liệt sĩ,
mỗi lá cây ngọn cỏ như đang thì thầm kể lại những trận đánh hào hùng của các thế hệ cha ông :
Quách Quỳ thảm bại lui binh,
Thoát Hoan chui vào ống đồng mà trốn,
Liễu Thăng bị chém rơi đầu,
Tôn Sĩ Nghị bỏ chạy người không kịp mặc giáp, ngựa không kịp đóng yên cương...
Những đạo quân xâm lược của Thiên triều đi qua cửa ải nơi này
đều bị đánh tan tành không còn mảnh giáp.
Ải Nam quan đã trở thành chứng nhân lịch sử
về những võ công oanh liệt của cha ông,
về những bại vong của các vương triều phương Bắc
và cả những câu chuyện làm chấn động lòng người :
- Nguyễn Phi Khanh bị giặc Minh bắt về Trung Quốc dặn con là Nguyễn Trãi đừng theo mình giữ tròn chữ hiếu mà hãy quay về nuôi chí báo thù rửa nhục cho vẹn chữ trung
- Nghe tin Tôn Sĩ Nghị đại bại, dân nhà Thanh khiếp vía kinh hồn bỏ trốn biệt tích khiến hàng trăm dặm biên giới không một tiếng gà
kêu chó sủa ...
- Hàng vạn dân lành Việt Nam bị quân bành trướng Trung Quốc giết hại dã man trong trận chiến biên giới năm 1979
- Hàng ngàn ngôi nhà của người dân Việt Nam bị quân bành trướng Trung Quốc đập phá, hủy hoại tan tành trong trận chiến biên giới năm 1979
- Hàng trăm bản làng của người dân Việt Nam đã trở thành những vùng đất chết không còn một bóng sinh vật nào sống sót trong trận chiến biên giới năm 1979.
Thế nhưng nay còn đâu hình ảnh cửa ải oai hùng mà thân thương nơi địa đầu Tổ quốc.
Biểu tượng của lòng tự hào dân tộc,
biểu tượng của tinh thần quật cường dân tộc,
biểu tượng của sức sống vĩnh hằng dân tộc,
biểu tượng ngàn năm của một quốc gia độc lập giành quyền sống từ trong máu lửa
vì sao đến đời chúng ta lại bị biến mất một cách âm thầm, khó hiểu?
Điều gì đã xảy ra ?
Liệu nó có là điềm báo cho một cơn hồng thủy sẽ nhấn chìm đất nước này, hủy diệt dân tộc này ?
Ai có thể cho tôi một câu trả lời thuyết phục ?
“Một tấc đất của tiền nhân để lại, cũng không được để lọt vào tay kẻ khác” **
Lời dạy của cha ông, hỏi ai còn nhớ ?
Lẽ nào biểu tượng Tổ quốc đã in sâu vào trong trái tim mỗi người dân Việt Nam cứ lặng im chìm vào quên lãng,
chìm vào lớp bụi thời gian,
chìm vào sự vô cảm của các thế hệ con cháu ?
Câu hỏi đó cứ lớn dần trong tôi như một lời trách cứ của tổ tiên,
khiến cho tôi đêm đêm mất ngủ
trong nỗi hổ thẹn của một kẻ hậu bối chưa làm tròn lời dạy của tiền nhân...

20. WHERE IS NAM QUAN BORDER PASS ?
Imposing and mighty,
the image of Nam Quan border pass has been engraved in the heart of every Vietnamese citizen.
Though drifting to any place on Earth,
whenever thinking of the native land in the curved S-letter form
not any Vietnamese person can forget the verse lines handed down through numberless generations :
Our country is a seamless stripe of land
From Friendly Nam Quan border pass * to Ca Mau cape...
On the border area of our Motherland
each inch of land is soaked in the blood of innumerable heroes and martyrs,
each leave and grass blade seems to be narrating in whispers the mighty battles of our ancestry generations :
General Guo Kui had to withdraw his troops after lots of utter defeats,
Crown prince Tuo Huan had to crawl into a copper pipe to flee,
General Liu Sheng was beheaded,
General Zun Shi Yi had to flee without wearing an armour for himself and a harness for his horse...
The invading armies of the Celestial Empire passing through this border pass were all smashed without any armour undamaged.
Nam Quan border pass has become a historical witness
of our ancestry’s glorious military exploits
of the Northern dynasties’ defeats
and also of the stories shaking human hearts :
- Sir Nguyen Phi Khanh who was escorted by the troops of the Ming dynasty advised his son named Sir Nguyen Trai not to follow him to keep his filial piety but return to nourish his ambition of revenge for their insult to fulful his loyalty.
- Hearing the news of general Zun Shi Yi’s great defeat, the people of the Ch’ing dynasty were so frightened that they fled away causing hundreds of miles in the border area out of any domestic animal or poultry’s sound...
- Ten thousands of Vietnamese decent citizens were savagely slaughtered by the Chinese army of expansionism in the border war in 1979
- Thousands of Vietnamese citizens’ houses were smashed and destroyed by the Chinese army of expansionism in the border war in 1979
- Hundreds of Vietnamese citizens’ villages became deadly regions without any creature alive in the border war in 1979.
But where is the image of the mighty and beloved pass in the border area of our Motherland nowadays ?
The symbol of our national pride,
the symbol of our national indomitable spirit,
the symbol of our national eternal vitality,
the thousand-year symbol of an independent state seizing its right of existence from blood and fire.
Why has it disappeared in a stealthy and unperceivable way in our generation ?
What has happened ?
It is the omen of a deluge which will plunge our country and exterminate our nation, isn’t it ?
Who can give me a persuadable reply ?
“Even an inch of land entrusted by our ancestors shouldn’t be let slip into any foreigner’s hand” **
Who still remembers this teaching from our ancestors ?
Is it possible that our symbol of Motherland which has been deeply carved into each Vietnamese citizen’s heart will silently be sunk into oblivion,
into the dusts of time,
into the posterity generations’ indifference ?
This question is gradually growing in me as a reproach from our ancestors causing me lose sleep every night
in the shame of a descendant who hasn’t abided by his ancestors’ teaching...
