Collection of Poems Nirvana by Binh Tam

  *
*  *

   *
*   *

   *

Cổ họng tôi tắc nghẹn,
không thể cất lên một lời an ủi
trước sinh linh bé bỏng đang ngồi kia.
Chỉ cảm thấy trong ngực mình
có một bàn tay rắn như thép
đang từ từ bóp chặt trái tim...

6. A VAGABOND LITTLE BOY

In a luxurious villa on the other side of the Ocean
a skinny Vietnamese woman
in a servant-maid’s dress
is gently spoon-feeding an old immovable body in a wheelchair with gruel bit by bit,
to receive foreign currency coins by the end of every month with a life-change hope
which will be sparingly spent to be sent to her husband and son in a region of low-level summer rice fields.

  *
*  *
In a small hamlet previously containing only thatch cottages
many reinforced concrete two-floor, three-floor buildings are rising.
In the merry laughters from the children who are climbing the staircase in the first time,
their flaunt whispers can be  heard :
- My mother sent money to have this new building built, friends !
- My mother has also just sent money to have a new building built, friends !
- My mother has also ...
- My mother has also ...
And in the satisfied laughters from the host in his new building celebration ceremony.
Who can hear the deep sigh from an old woman in the adjacent room ?
   *
*   *
The little boy said nothing more for his voice was choked with emotion.
I waited in silence and guessed something should have happened
due to his compressed hiccough...
- Brother, after that my father brought home another woman
and forced me to call her my step mother.
The rest was her insults
falling on my head
and her look at me as if I were a servant boy.
My father was also indifferent and cool to me.
I didn’t understand why he was changed into such a man.
But later on, I casually heard the neighbourers’ mutual confidential whispers :
- Mrs Dao is certainly in love with her host’s son.
If not, where can she take so much money to send home.
Her husband has also sent a letter to force her consent to his divorce.
She will not dare to come back to Vietnam any more.
My grandma probably heard the rumour,
because I sometimes saw her cry on the sly  in her room.
After that  she was sick and  bedridden,
and then she left me
to lie in the graveyard.
Not capable to stand the family’s indifference, I have left my village since that day
to earn my living by all trades unstably...
My neighbouring friends who had new buildings built also met the same situation as mine
and they have also left the village to wander everywhere...
   *
My throat was blocked  up,
not able to utter a word of consolation
to the little human being sitting over there.
I just felt in my chest
there was a steel-hard hand
gradually pressing my heart

The Rhyme Divine by Chayan Chatterjee

The Rhythm Divine

Moon why are you so near?
Why you come down soon?
You look so pale and your
Face grim stricken, I cannot
Account for your silence,
Dear o dear what happened?

This age is so hectic, a thin string
Plays a divider between life and death;
The air carries the poisonous smell,
Blood flows through the river,
Everywhere greeds are lurking its spell.
Kingdoms fell but kingship none
Gone are those days where
Brothers play under one Sun.
I can hold your worrirs are true,
As we face this time together
Hoping to find a little warm place,
And let the winter pass through.

Then one day some shooting star,
Will surely knocks the closed door ajar,
You and me can breath freash air;
Sailing the canoe of clouds,
Rippling the water silver.
I can still sense your lovely heart
That croons the songs of our childhood days,
Glorious are those
As green meadows are in golden morn rays.

The days we first met are not a long gone by,
It was an exceptional fantasy,
Seen through your dreamy eye.
I carry your lovely sounds heard on that day,
Chuckling and giggling like a sweet little baby
In your mother's arm, on a starry Monday.
Prestine is your happiness,
And all sweetness melts in your cute smile;
Glowing in the hands of the fair maidens,
Who fond with you around;
Like little Sun plays with its
Seven rainbow sisters, happiness abound.

You as a little wonder when danced with me
Wind blew the magic flute
And all the stars clapped thee.
Wild flowers scattered around aromatised
Our mind so that I am still searching it's spell,
As mother filled her lap with baby
Singing the most sweetest lullabies.
Together we ran through the meadows and alley,
Spend many evenings chatting by the river side,
Enjoyed the tuned songs of the cricket and
The magical dance of the fire flies.

Then came the blossoming time of the roses,
Magnificent in colours, rich in necter;
When heart defeated the mind,
Uncontrollable passions finds its river.
Time sailed the boat swiftly
As we slept for a while
Tranced in the music of love
And boozed by the nectar devine.

Love is your soul mate,
As due drops on morning roses;
I can still feel your care for me
When you kiss my glistening eyes,
As I watched my loved- one passes.

Tired in your walk of life
Alone, you are quite feeble now,
Sky is a vast dome, reaching the stars
Are wishes cherished a long ago;
Of late how?

I can see glitters in your old eyes
As we recollect those old plights,
We would pass the remaining days so,
Until that magic wand blurred your sights.
As you journeyed through the milky way
Sitting in your most comfortable couch,
Amused by the silent song which sings
Our glorious rebirth after the darkest night.
